The Grimes
Kathleen Grimes

Hey everyone! Thanks for visiting our site. My name is Kathleen, but most people know me as Kat Grimes. I currently work full-time in Indy with plans to begin working toward a degree in Business.

Music has been a part of my life since before I can remember! I started as a classical pianist when I was about 8 years old, but my older sister, Shannon, taught me to read music long before that. I started serious lessons under the instruction of Nancy Crump and began competing in The World Piano Competition a few years later. I had the opportunity to compete at the semi-finals in Cincinnati, Ohio four times. One of the requirements of the competition was a music theory test. For many years I studied music theory under Anne Crump and Laura Lancaster, developing skills in theory that later helped me in my bluegrass endeavors.

I began taking flute lessons from Mrs. Crump when I was around 10 years old, because I wanted an instrument I could carry with me. Honestly, I was jealous of Nat because every time we traveled to Kansas to see our grandparents, she was able to play for them and I wasn’t. So after taking up the flute, I was finally able to show off my music to my grandparents!

After moving to Avon, Nat and I started performing as “The Grimes Girls” in 2007. I have worked mainly with rhythm guitar and have learned to incorporate my flute, penny whistle, and even piano into our shows! I have even become so daring as to occasionally jump in and dance a little jig on stage while Natalie fiddles. I am also working on developing my song-writing and have written a few songs for us to perform, along with Nat’s help.

Besides music, in my free time I enjoy running, writing, and horseback riding. I also was a 10 year 4-H member. As a past winner of Avon’s Junior Miss, I have fun going back each year and helping out wherever I can. I also like to be a part of our community and am involved with the Hoosier Girls State (HGS) program as a past delegate and counselor. I am a part of my church’s music ensemble and also serve in the nursery and Children’s Church.

The biggest part of my life by far is my relationship with Jesus Christ. He has changed my life and given me talents and gifts that can all be used for His glory and praise. I look forward to sharing those with all of you and sharing what He has done in my life. My life without Him would be nothing.

Well, that’s just a little insight into my life. I forgot to mention my talent of joke telling (LOL). Each audience we perform for has the life-changing experience of hearing me tell jokes. I am very serious about my comedic career and study books and videos for inspiration.

Thanks again for all of your support! I am truly blessed to have been given such great family, friends, and fans! Hope to see you at one of our shows soon!

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.
